Remembering Riverside's Mueller's Brewery and The Caves
Anyone remember the old Brewery caves located by the Des Plaines River and Ogden in Riverside? Here is a photo of the original Mueller Brewery built in 1856 and burned down in 1873. Most caves were around through the 1920's and to this day you can still find them.
After the fire, the caves remained until torn down in the 1920's:
If you dig deep enough - you will still find the remains today!

As a grade school kid in the 1970s, my friends and I would ride our bikes from Cicero to the "caves" and spend a number of days smoking cigarettes and escaping the heat. Ahhhh...such simple, fun times.
