Blythe Park in the 1950's

Blythe Park was quite the modern place in the 1950's, and still is to this day.  The original caption for these photos was:

Original caption: Students respond eagerly in the vigorous atmosphere of the Blythe Park School at Riverside, Illinois. Large window areas and natural wood interiors are big features of this progressively designed school by Lawrence Perkins architect firm in Chicago. The citizens of Riverside paid $600,000 for site, building, equipment and landscaping. Chicago pays between 90 cents and $1.10 per square foot. The Blythe park School cost $1.11 per square foot.

  1. My mother, Mildred Lindquist, was on the school board and worked with the decorator. The fireplace in the library was ground-breaking.
